Music and food are universal languages. For Alberta Culture Days three Edmonton organizations have partnered to design a cultural celebration that features music and food to bring together seniors from many cultures and break down barriers that can lead to social isolation.
Unity in Diversity is a cultural blending celebration happening on Friday, September 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westend Seniors Activity Centre (9629 176 Street).
Music and performances
Choirs from the Westend Seniors Activity Centre (WSAC) and Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN) will communicate and exchange their talents in their unique melodies. WSAC’s house band Silver Tone will engage the audience to sing along with them. The Kyrgyz Association in Alberta will educate people about their unique culture through dance performance, food, costume, and decorations.
The food reflects the Unity in Diversity theme as well. Two ethnic rice dishes will be prepared by EMCN for sampling, and WSAC will remind people of food typical to Alberta.
The event is free and everyone is welcome. Come celebrate the cultural diversity that makes Alberta a wonderful place to live!
