There are many resources and organizations in Edmonton to help reduce the isolation of seniors, but seniors don’t often know what’s available. “We need to ensure that seniors are made aware and utilize these resources so that they can be ‘Older Bolder Better!’”, says Janice Monfries, Executive Director at Westend Seniors Activity Centre (WSAC). WSAC does this by hosting an annual learning and living symposium called Older, Bolder, Better! ™
This year the event is being held on June 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. You can find Westend Seniors Activity Centre at 9629 176 Street. Seniors can attend information sessions on topics such as fraud awareness, connecting with technology (digital banking, online grocery shopping, etc.) and assisted transportation. Local broadcasting pioneer, Bruce Hogle, is the keynote speaker and the Alberta Seniors Advocate, Dr. Sheree Kwong See, will talk about how the Office of the Seniors Advocate can help seniors and their families. At the exhibitor trade fair, seniors will be able to connect with organizations that offer a variety of helpful services and pick up resources.
The day also promises to be filled with fun! Seniors can enjoy free entertainment, artisan vendors market, bake sale, silent auction, raffle baskets, 50/50 draw, special buffalo barbecue and loads of free give-a-ways at the exhibitor trade show. You can read more details in the event program.
Event admission is free to the public and we hope to see you there!
