In Events, Resources

Do you assist a family member or friend living with challenges resulting from disability, illness or aging? If you said yes, you are a caregiver. There are over 600,000 caregivers in Alberta and 8.3 million across Canada.

Caregiving can be stressful, overwhelming, isolating and have a negative impact on your physical and mental health. Caregivers Alberta is dedicated to helping caregivers maintain their own well-being and regain balance in their lives. We do this through programs focused on supporting the caregiver in developing self-care strategies and resources.

Information Sessions

Free information sessions are held every two weeks on Wednesdays. The fall series starts September 27, 2017. Sessions are offered in the afternoon (1:30 – 3 p.m.) and repeated in the evening (6 – 7:30 p.m.) unless noted otherwise. Every session addresses a different topic important to caregivers. Topics covered this fall include handling the challenging emotions that come with caregiving and preparing for caregiving changes. Check our website for the schedule of topics. Call 780-453-5088 to register or if you have any questions about the sessions.

COMPASS for the Caregiver

COMPASS for the Caregiver is our signature program that encourages caregivers to care for themselves. The program is facilitated by a caregiver or professional who understands how hard it can be. It is a 9-week program (2 hours/week) that helps participants gain understanding of their caregiver journey and how to make it less difficult. Check for upcoming COMPASS programs or call 780-453-5088 for programming near you.

Caregivers Alberta was founded in 2001 as a not-for-profit charitable organization that believes caregivers are a cornerstone of our communities and caregiving is an invisible resource integral to supporting our loved ones in the community. Caregivers Alberta is the province’s only grassroots organization exclusively dedicated to helping Caregivers maintain their own well-being and regain balance in their lives.
